It’s that time of year where you’re looking for the perfect gift to give your loved one. We all know you may buy some chocolate or flowers, but how about some wine?! No matter your plans, a bottle of wine fits any occasion. Better yet, we have some of the best New York wins right here in the upper Hudson Valley. We don’t want you to waste time wandering the aisles at the store, so here’s some wines you need to consider if you really want to impress. Even better we have some Valentine’s events already planned out for you! Check them out at the end of this article.
First up is Adirondack Winery’s Red Ruby.. This blend of 3 new York red grapes is delightfully sweet combining fresh grapes, strawberry jam, and candied berry flavors, finished with a soft tartness. If you don’t believe us then click the link above to see all the awards it has won.
Notes: Serve at room temperature or chilled. Suggested pairings include ham, pizza, light salads, mild cheeses, berry desserts, and of course friends!
We’ll give you another New York red to follow up, courtesy of Amorici Vineyard. Their Marquette NOR is rich with a bold prolific character, balancing to a fine Pinot style. This wine starts and ends at Amorici, from growing all the way to bottling.
Notes: Greatly complements a formal meal like roast beef or pork. Also pairs well with pizza, burgers, and spicy chicken wings.
If red wines aren’t your thing, then here’s a white to buy for this special occasion. Fossil Stone Vineyards’ 2015 LaCrescent is estate grown with balanced minerals and acidity that lingers with a refreshing and crisp finish.
Notes: Served best when chilled, this wine pairs well with fish, poultry, and most cheeses.
This blend of Cayuga White, Merlot, and Malbec grapes give this wine a beautiful shade of pink. This blend features hints of strawberry, roses and a touch of citrus. A vibrant and refreshing finish make this a versatile wine for almost any occasion.
Notes: Try a raspberry cream mimosa with sherbet and fresh raspberries for a perfect cocktail.
This vintage from Ledge Rock Hill has received multiple awards, both locally and nationally. This cold climate French/American hybrid has its heritage in the Pinot-Noir grape and gives off cherry and black currant flavors after aging in Hungarian Oak.
Notes: This wine is great to enjoy at any special occasion, pairing well with just about any hors d’ oeuvre or party food.
Oliva Vineyards’ Nathan’s Select comes from a hybrid grape developed by Cornell University to produce high quality dry reds from colder climates. It’s dark berry and plum flavors give it a flavor you’ll have to try to believe.
Notes: This dry red pairs well with a good filet and stronger cheeses, as well as pasta.
Another selection to grab for Valentine’s Day is The Saratoga Winery’s Semi Dry Riesling. This wine gives off pineapple aromas with mellow peach and honey flavors. This leads to a very smooth and lingering finish.
Notes: This wine pairs well with green salads, shrimp, crab, and lobster.
We’ll give you another complex hybrid from Swedish Hill Winery. Their 2014 Late Harvest Vignoles is one of their fruitiest late harvest wines they’ve produced. Giving peach and pineapple aromas the flavors go on and on with this one.
Notes: Vignoles pairs very nicely with spicy dishes that have a touch of heat. This make the wine seem a bit drier and accentuates the citrus notes.
Thirsty Owl’s 2015 Pinot Noir is a staple of theirs that will definitely impress for Valentine’s Day. This red gives you flavors of strawberry and red currant and is accented by hints of oak and earthy undertones. The Wine Spectator rated their 2015 Pinot Noir at 91 points, so you know it will impress!
Notes: This is a very versatile red that pairs well with just about any red or white meat. It also goes very well with creamy sauces and spicy seasonings.
Victory View Vineyard’s 2014 Turning Point is a locally, estate grown wine crafted with marquette grapes. Turning Point is a full-body dry red with a complex flavor profile. A bottle of marquette Turning Point will disappear quickly while celebrating one of life’s turning points.
Notes: Spice thing up – Turning Point stands up well to spicy foods and hearty dishes.
