Summer Wine Competitions Result in Local Winners

We don’t know exactly how many glasses of wine were swirled, sniffed and sipped in these well-known wine competitions, but we do know it was in the thousands. That makes these medals even sweeter to local wineries on the Upper Hudson Valley Wine Trail. Three wineries on our trail enter the fruits of their labor in these competitions. INDY International Wine Competition
Announced August 1, 2014
Thirsty Owl Wine Company won nine medals, including three gold medals for their 2012 Meritage, 2013 Vidal Blanc and 2013 Gewürztraminer, and a double gold and best in class for their 2013 Traminette. Swedish Hill Winery won 10 medals including three gold medals at the INDY International Wine Competition.

New York International Wine Competition
Announced July 30, 2014
Swedish Hill Winery took home two medals – a silver medal for their dry Riesling and a bronze for their Cabernet Franc. They also won the USA Individual award of Cabernet Franc Winery of the Year award. Adirondack won two bronze medals at the New York International Wine Competition.

Tasters Guild International Competition
Announced June 23, 2014
Adirondack Winery won four silver medals. Swedish Hill Winery earned four gold, two silver and four bronze medals. Thirsty Owl Wine Company took home a double gold for their Diamond wine along with three silver and three bronze medals. See the Tasters Guild Wine Competition results.

New York State Fair Wine Competition
Announced June 20, 2014
Swedish Hill Winery earned five double gold medals for their Riesling Curee, 2012 Dry Riesling, 2013 Blue Waters Riesling, 2011 Cabernet Franc, 2013 Cayuga White and eleven silver and three bronze medals. Thirsty Owl Wine Company won a double gold, eight silver and four bronze medals. Adirondack Winery received two silver medals. See the complete list of New York State Fair Wine Competition winners.

In addition to these competitions, Thirsty Owl Wine Company entered and won medals at four more competitions. Josh Cupp, operator of Thirsty Owl Outlet and Wine Garden in Saratoga, understating his family’s winning results said, “Had a good couple of months.” At the Atlantic Seaboard Competition they received two gold medals for their 2013 Riesling and Dry Riesling. At the Riverside International Wine Competition Thirsty Owl’s 2013 Traminette won a gold, was rated 91 points, received best in class and was a sweepstakes winner for best white wine. Their Diamond wine won a double gold and best in class. At the Pacific Rim Competition Thirsty Owl’s 2013 Chardonnay earned a gold medal and their 2013 Snowy Owl won gold and was best in class. The results at La Fair showed Thirsty Owl’s 2013 Traminette rated 91 points with another gold medal. Yes, Josh, we agree – a good couple of months!
